Regrettably, Hofstra University and the League of Women Voters of Nassau County had to cancel their long-scheduled Oct. 15 candidates debate between County Executive Edward Mangano and former County Executive Thomas Suozzi ["Exec debate is off," News, Sept. 30]. The league contacted all candidates in June.
The Mangano campaign kept putting us off, and finally, on Sept. 27, said the candidate could not make it because of scheduling conflicts. If not for this delay, it might have been possible to reschedule our event.
Hofstra University and the League of Women Voters of Nassau County have co-sponsored a county executive debate in each of the last three campaigns. We are disappointed, confused and frustrated at losing the opportunity to provide this valuable service for the voters of Nassau County this year.
