Three cheers for new Syosset school board member Joshua Lafazan, who is trying to shake things up in calling for "transparency" in the board's business ["Testy school board meeting," News, Aug. 8].

Another board member called for all members to "play nice," as if overseeing controversial policies was like playing volleyball in the schoolyard! "Playing nice" is what has catapulted the salary of Syosset's superintendent, and other administrators, into the stratosphere.

Perhaps it's time for the Syosset board to play hardball rather than nice -- with Lafazan doing the pitching!
