Letter: Israel shouldn't have to fear

Palestinian militants barraged Israel with nearly 150 rockets

Israel came into being so that Jewish children would never again have to huddle together in fear, terrorized by enemies of the Jewish people, while their parents stood by helplessly ["Israel kills Hamas chief in Gaza," News, Nov. 15].

Yet that is exactly what happened during the war in 1948. I still remember spending long periods in a makeshift bunker outside our apartment in Tel Aviv.

It's 64 years later, and once again parents in Tel Aviv have to worry about bombs from the Gaza Strip. Can you imagine if the West Bank were another Gaza? After all, Israel left the Gaza Strip, removed all settlements, and this is the outcome.

The Palestinians have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. They do not want the West Bank or Jerusalem, they want Tel Aviv and Haifa. In short, they want to drive the Jews into the sea.
