Letter: Pensions earned through hard work

I am writing in response to "$100G pensions on the rise" [News, Feb. 3]. I'm not sure I understand Newsday's constant attack on public employees. You would think that these people were hardened criminals.
The people who are collecting these pensions earned them with hard work and many years serving the community. They did it legally and followed the rules -- and so can others.
I went back to college at age 41, earned my teaching master's degree, and now have a satisfying career with the security of a pension waiting for me.
