Letter: Private schools save tax money
I am appalled by the ignorant comments posted online with the article about the lack of transportation for private school students ["They'll miss the bus," News, Aug. 30].
I wonder if those responding are aware that per-pupil spending in Long Beach public schools is roughly $30,000. They are correct that the families who send their children to parochial schools do so by choice, but what they fail to appreciate is the tremendous savings to public schools.
They should check with district Superintendent David Weiss and see if he would like to educate another 700 or so children. Do they want to see their tax bills go up?
I like to see a strong school district regardless of my decision to use private schools. Rather than posting nasty responses, these people should thank us and be happy to provide buses.
