Letter: Sentence light in prostitution case

Travel deals

"Guilty plea for forced prostitution" [News, March 2] describes a 15-year-old girl who was enticed to a house where for five days she was forced to have sex for money with numerous men. Her captor, Gary Council, 22, of Ozone Park, took the money. The girl was forced to take Ecstasy pills.

If he had been convicted on all of the charges -- among them first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child -- he would have faced 25 years to life in prison.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and received a sentence of 2 to 6 years. What a travesty of justice!
