The article "Smithtown GOP fray shows" [News, Jan. 10] was very alarming. I am a senior Smithtown resident and am very concerned about the stability and growth of this great town.

It appears from the article that there is no Smithtown public-servant team spirit when dealing with taxes, crime and economic growth. It is shocking to me, and it illustrates the dysfunction of the town board and others who represent the residents of Smithtown. It reminds me of our federal officials and their poor record of representing the American people.

Something not mentioned in the article is the poor business climate, especially along Main Street, where many stores are vacant. What is the Smithtown government doing to fill the vacancies, expand the business base and draw people to our great community? My impression is, not much.
