A recent article mentioned a rail link to Amtrak across Long Island Sound [“Federal report: Amtrak on LI still an option,” News, Nov. 21]. Great idea!

Why not combine the link with a highway through Bayville — an extension of Route 135?

In the 1960s, a highway and bridge proposal was shot down because people said this was an environmentally sensitive area. A few people could be moved, and as a result, thousands of people on Long Island would enjoy a safer means of travel and better quality of life.
