"Welcome to Long Island" was the headline over a picture of a North Shore Animal League worker holding two pups that had just arrived from Los Angeles [News, Feb. 8]. Why do we allow puppies to be imported from all over the country, when our own shelters are full of adoptable dogs?

The article says the league has rescued 60 dogs from Los Angeles County shelters. No one in California would have adopted these dogs?

This has to stop until every adoptable dog on Long Island has found its forever home.
