WOODBURY - LIPA Chief Operating Officer and acting CEO Michael Hervey has tendered his resignation today, effective in December.

LIPA and Hervey have come under heavy criticism from politicians and residents alike for the utility's handling of power restoration efforts following Hurricane Sandy.

Politicians across the island as well as Gov. Andrew Cuomo have criticized the utility for a lack of communication as well as its preparation prior to the storm.

Residents across the Island have held protests against LIPA and its handling of the restoration efforts.

Hervey had worked at LIPA for 12 years and was acting CEO for the past two years.
