Curbside "S.O.R.T." recycling includes:

METALS Food and beverage cans (including pet food cans) only

Special handling: Remove labels and rinse.

Do not include : Oil cans, paint cans, aerosol cans, wire clothes hangers, aluminum chair frames, steel and alluminum pipes, license plates, pots and pans.

GLASS

Only food and beverage bottles (including liquor bottles) and jars

Special handling: Rinse.

Do not include: Ceramic glass, items made of clay, drinking glasses, light bulbs, home or auto window glass, mirrors, serving dishes.

PLASTICS

Only rigid plastics (soft drink bottles, milk and water jugs, laundry product bottles, shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap and cleanser bottles, salad dressing bottles, condiment, squeeze bottles.

Special handling: Remove food residue and caps. Crush bottles and jugs, if possible.

Do not include: Items made of Styrofoam, plastic wrap, food wrappers, plastic eating utensils, flower pots, seedling containers, toys with metal parts, hangers, disposable diapers, hypodermic needles, plastic bags, cardboard milk cartons.

NEWSPAPERS AND INSERTS

Tie securely with twine and place next to S.O.R.T pail. Do not place in brown paper or plastic bags.

MAGAZINES / MIXED PAPER

@Newsday

Magazines, catalogs, color inserts, advertising mail, school and office paper, envelopes (with or without cellophane window), brown envelopes, telephone books.

Only recyclable when bundled and tied with twine separately from newspapers.

DO NOT INCLUDE

Hardcover or paperback books, food boxes, newsprint, corrugated boxes, carbon paper.

Residents in doubt concerning the recyclability of certain items should call 516-755-1839 (Tuesdays - Fridays 6 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.).
