A Town of Kent man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he was allegedly found with an extremely emaciated, dehydrated and malnourished dog.

After a two-week investigation by the SPCA of Putnam County, 57-year-old Paul Donahue was arrested and charged with failing to provide sustenance for a 3-year-old male Doberman named Henrick.

The SPCA said Donahue fostered the dog for about seven months after the owner put up an ad on Craigslist. When the owner picked Henrick up last month, the dog allegedly was starving and had lost a fourth of his body mass. He has been under the care of a vet since then.

Donahue is due at Kent town court Wednesday at 5 p.m.
