THE BRONX - Students at one Bronx school have worked hard all semester to put together a poetry slam.

Saturday's event was held at New Visions Charter High School in the South Bronx.

A teacher at the school says the event is a great way to advance and showcase the school's English program, as well as celebrate where they come from in the Bronx.

One performer says that the hard-hitting, personal nature of the poems is what gives them their power.
