SPRING VALLEY - State, county and local police set up DWI checkpoints in the Hudson Valley for the long holiday weekend.

According to authorities, the busiest travel weekend of the year is also one of the most dangerous times to be behind the wheel.

Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says checkpoints were in place at three different locations Wednesday evening. He says the locations will be moved around the county in an effort to keep people safe on roadways.

Officials say no taxpayer money will be spent for DWI patrols. They are being paid for by DWI offenders as part of a hefty fine.

The checkpoints will last through Sunday.
