The Newsday/News 12 Long Island/Siena Research Institute poll of 1,037 registered voters in Nassau and Suffolk was conducted Sept. 29-Oct. 7. The overall margin of error is +/- 3 percent. The margins of error are higher for individual minority groups because of their smaller numbers in the survey. For blacks, who constitute 10 percent of the total sample, the margin of error is +/- 9.6 percent; for Hispanics, who are 4 percent of the sample, the margin of error is 16 percent. Asians make up 1 percent of the sample, while whites constitute 77 percent of all the respondents.
