Poughkeepsie city teenager shot dead

A 17-year-old Poughkeepsie resident was shot and killed early Sunday morning, police said.

The teenager was shot at 364 Main St. around 1 a.m. Sunday. The victim arrived at Vassar Brothers Medical Center via taxi a short time later, where he was pronounced dead.

Poughkeepsie police said the circumstances of why he was brought to the medical center by taxi were unclear.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of his relatives. Police said they believe the shooting was not a random act and that several people were present.
