A Poughkeepsie man was arrested Thursday night after he struck a bicyclist with his car and police discovered he was wanted on a warrant, the Saugerties Police Department said.

Cops responded to the intersection of Route 9W and Lauren Tice Road at 6:30 p.m. for a report of a bicyclist who was injured after being clipped by a car.

When they arrived, they found the victim -- who had minor injuries -- and the driver, 43-year-old Willie B. Brigman, waiting at the intersection. Cops ran a check of Brigman's license and found out he was wanted on a warrant by the Suffolk County Department of Probation on charges of two counts of third-degree assault, police said.

Brigman was arrested and brought back to the Saugerties Police Department, where he was picked up later Thursday night by Suffolk County authorities.

The bicyclist, whose identity was not released by cops, was treated at the scene by paramedics and was brought by car to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police said.
