Poughkeepsie man shot, cops solicit leads

Police are asking for tips after a 22-year-old man was shot late Thursday night in the City of Poughkeepsie.

At 11 p.m., police began fielding 911 calls about shots fired in the area of Winnikee Avenue, while cops on patrol also heard the shots and headed toward the scene, police said.

The officers found the victim with a minor gunshot wound to his lower leg, which police said was not life-threatening. Paramedics brought the victim to Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

The victim wasn't cooperating with detectives, and cops said they believe the victim "was intentionally targeted and the shooting was not random."

They're looking for help from the public in identifying the shooters. Anyone with information on the Thursday night shooting can call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department's detective division at 845-451-4142 or the department's tip line at 845-451-7577.
