Poughkeepsie motel robbed by armed man, cops say

Town of Poughkeepsie police are looking for an armed man who robbed a motel Sunday afternoon on Route 9 in the municipality.

A man entered the Super 8 Motel at 2349 South Rd. (Route 9) at about 3 p.m. from a rear door and was confronted by the desk clerk in a hallway, police said. The man brandished a handgun and the two struggled, with the clerk breaking free and locking himself in an office, police said.

The intruder continued on to the front desk and the clerk was able to escape the building and call 911, police said.

A town of Poughkeepsie SWAT team arrived and searched the motel for the robber, to no avail. He left with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

Officers described him as African-American, about 5-foot-11 with thin build and wearing a gray shirt and black pants.
