NEW CANAAN - A local real estate agent is taking to the skies to scope out prospective homes.

Mark Pires says pictures are critical when trying to market a home, which is why he invested in a remote-controlled drone to scan neighborhoods from above. The device, known as a quadcopter, takes photos and videos in stunning quality that he can then display online.

FAA officials say there are regulations as to how high people can fly similar aircraft. Pires adds that all he needs is about 60 feet of ground clearance to see over the trees.

Pires says he is hopeful the new technology will help boost home sales. He says he already sold a property last week after posting aerial images on the Internet.
