A Dutchess County man was charged with burglary after slipping into an ex-girlfriend's Putnam County home while she slept and taking several items, police said.
Robert A. Huzar, 25, of 250 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction in the Town of East Fishkill, was arrested and charged Wednesday with felony second-degree burglary in the crime, Putnam County Sheriff's Department Capt. William McNamara said Friday.
Putnam County sheriff's Investigator Robert Ferris determined that Huzar went into the woman's Philipstown home through her bedroom window in the early morning hours of March 24 while she was sleeping and took several items, which authorities did not detail, before fleeing, police said.
The victim reported the crime later that day, police said.
Huzar was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann and sent to the Putnam County Jail in Carmel in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond. He remained jailed Friday pending a May 12 court appearance.
He faces up to 15 years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000 if convicted of the felony charge.
It was not immediately clear Friday if Huzar had an attorney. A call to the Putnam sheriff's department for comment was not immediately returned Friday.
