YONKERS - Former Yonkers City Councilwoman Sandy Annabi will remain behind bars while she appeals her conviction on federal corruption charges.

Two federal judges have denied Annabi's request to be released on bail while the appeals process is under way.

Annabi began serving a six-year prison sentence at a federal facility in Connecticut earlier this month. Her co-defendant, former Yonkers GOP Chair Zehy Jereis, is serving a four-year prison term.

Annabi was convicted of accepting nearly $200,000 in gifts from Jereis to vote in favor of two Yonkers development projects, including the massive Ridge Hill shopping complex.
