School closings, delays
Westchester and Rockland have been declared federal disaster areas as a result of Hurricane Sandy. This makes local residents and businesses eligible for federal relief assistance.
Disaster Assistance:
To qualify, those who have unreimbursed losses must first register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Impact:
Sandy claimed at least 48 lives in New York -- five in the Hudson Valley.
Two young boys were killed when a tree fell on their home in North Salem. A man was killed in an accident on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers. Another man was killed by a falling tree in Pearl River in Rockland County. And a woman driving alone was killed in Ulster County.
The storm caused more than $30 billion in damage in the state. In Westchester County, it is estimated that the cost of property damage and other expenses would be at least $100 million.
More than 500,000 homes lost power in Westchester, Rockland and the Hudson Valley.
