Early in the morning on Thursday, Dec. 5, a fire broke out at the Jon Thomas Inne in Brightwaters. It affected the kitchen, dining area and bar, as well as some of the apartments above the long-lived pub and restaurant.
With a history that dates back to the 1920s, the near-90-year-old venue has damage that will take several weeks to repair, which in turn means many of the Inne’s staffers will...Read more »
If you were involved with LI’s alternative music scene during the 1980s and '90s, you may recall lots of the college students and other young people of that era wearing T-shirts featuring a distinctive, day-glo drawing of a fish skeleton – which indicated that the wearer was likely a fan of the band Fishbone.

For craft beer aficionados, the release of a new brew can be reason enough to spend a Saturday afternoon traveling for suds-tasting purposes -- but as responsible drinkers know; driving somewhere to imbibe is not an acceptable practice. In the case of one annual...Read more »

Locally known for its food, live music and event calendar, Painters was also notable for the dozens of paintings that hung all over its walls and ceiling. The spot then further...Read more »
With the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend fast upon us, some area residents may be looking for ways to entertain out-of-town guests planning to stay longer than just for a Thursday turkey dinner.

According to this year’s AAA “Thanksgiving Travel Forecast” (aaa.com), 43.4 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the days that constitute the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
DJ Danny Avila, although not an American, will also be making such a trip -- and in doing so surpassing that 50 mile data point by about 3,500 miles -- by appearing at LOVE in Carle Place on Thanksgiving.

As most local venues will be seeking mass appeal, one can expect that the bands and DJs scheduled around LI will generally stick to mainstream music, such as pop, rock, hip-hop, classic tracks and EDM.
On the other hand,...Read more »
