Martin Avenue School

Students at Martin Ave School in North Bellmore collected different items each month throughout the school year for soldiers and veterans.  They collaborated with the local VFW headed by Frank Colon (seen in the picture)  who personally collected the packs each month and made sure that they were sent to the soldiers and veterans.  Some of the collected items were:  small toys like bouncy balls, decks of cards, and game books, t-shirts and socks, sucking candy, disposable razors and shaving cream, and canned fruit cocktail.
Students also sent letters to the soldiers during the holidays and for Valentines' Day.
Students at Martin Ave collected $3,000 which was donated to the American Red Cross to help the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami through our "Jump for Japan" special event.
