Networks go slow in announcing Obama win
November 5, 2008
Tim Russert's famous declaration in 2000 was " Florida, Florida, Florida," and knowing a good thing when they heard it, the networks collectively chanted, " Ohio, Ohio, Ohio" in 2004. Last night viewers heard caution, caution, caution, which could be called a state of mind.

TV's dynamic trio: 'Fringe,' 'Life on Mars,' 'Enemy'
October 12, 2008
Years ago, some bright soul thought up a term to describe TV shows that made absolutely no sense. The term seemed to embrace almost anything that was not a "sitcom" or a "drama," while also issuing a warning to viewers that they should prepare to fasten their seat belts because this particular ride could also be very bumpy, or very silly.

ON TV: Three shows, second chances
October 1, 2008
Welcome to "reboot" night on ABC. And an interesting night this is. The writers' strike derailed the network's Wednesday-night lineup, like the rest of television, before some of those shows had a chance to build audiences. Tonight, the second chance. Here's the question for this crop and other reboots: Is the second time around a charm?

The Inn is one of New York City's hottest hotels, and it's about to be consecrated in a New York Times profile. Only problem (well, one of many) - plus-size phone receptionist Molly (Jolene Purdy) has gotten her father to sue the place because the manager, Neal (O'Connell, of "Sliders" and "Stand by Me" fame), won't let her work in the lobby because she doesn't fit the glamorpuss image he's built for the place.

Review: 'Grey's Anatomy' season finale
May 22, 2008
Reason to watch: This is the end, or, should we say the end - a big, meaty, two-hour wrap that promises to resolve that Mer/Der thing, and maybe - OK, almost certainly - tell us more about that Hahn/Torres thing, too.

'Sopranos' high notes
June 7, 2007
How do you say goodbye to "The Sopranos," the greatest drama in TV history? With a list, of course, which explains why we loved this show for nearly a decade, and why the word "classic" will forever remain glued to its hide. Here we sum up a few key reasons.

'The Sopranos': New season worth the wait

NBC's '2.0' may be a zero
October 23, 2006
Did you read the news about NBC last week (oh boy)? Seven hundred lay-offs worldwide. ... MSNBC headquarters in Secaucus will be shuttered, and the network moved to 30 Rock ... 8 p.m. slots on the NBC prime-time schedule will be handed over to "non-scripted" programs, like "Deal or No Deal."

Family comes first for Vieira
September 13, 2006
I ran into Meredith Vieira a couple of months ago, or rather - to be precise - walked up to the table where she sat in the dining hall of a remote lodge in upstate New York. We've known each other (slightly) over the years, so a pleasant little chat ensued, followed by our goodbyes and that was that.
