Focus on getting wins now in fantasy football
The next few weeks will help determine what your roster
will look like when you enter the playoffs. With injuries and bye weeks, getting wins is the most crucial thing right now. And remember, always play anyone who faces the Lions, who have allowed 147 points in four games. Here are some good plays this week.
Jason Campbell (Redskins), QB: Campbell hasn't turned the ball over yet and has improved dramatically since Week 1 when he looked lost against the Giants. He has some excellent matchups coming up the next few games. It starts this week against the Rams, who rank 28th against the pass. Next up are the Browns and Lions.
Kyle Orton (Bears), QB: Orton has played well the last few weeks and faces the Falcons, who have struggled defending the pass. He has passed for 533 yards and seven touchdowns the last two games. Orton faces the Vikings and Lions the next two games, so he's a good short-term option.
Maurice Jones-Drew (Jaguars), RB: He has been a big disappointment and part of that is because of the Jaguars' banged up offensive line. The Broncos have allowed an average of 5.2 yards per carry. If there is any week that he gets going, it's this week.
Le'Ron McClain (Ravens), RB: Willis McGahee had 22 carries last week, but McClain still had 11 and scored. McClain will still be involved and is a good goal-line back. He faces the Colts, one of the worst teams at defending the run.
Vincent Jackson (Chargers), WR: Jackson hasn't been great so far, but with Chris Chambers likely to miss this week, this could be the week he breaks out. He should be targeted in the red zone.
Bernard Berrian (Vikings), WR: Berrian has come to life with Gus Frerotte at quarterback. He had six catches for 110 yards and a TD against the Saints Monday night. Now he gets the Lions.
Zach Miller (Raiders), TE: The Raiders don't have great options at wide receiver and JaMarcus Russell looks to Miller. He had five catches for 95 yards and a TD in Week 4 and may have been dropped since the Raiders had a bye last week. The Saints rank 27th against the pass.
Pickups
Brandon Stokley (Broncos), WR: Eddie Royal could be out this week and Tony Scheffler is out, so Stokley could see an increase in targets. He is averaging six targets per game and has 132 yards on 13 receptions with a touchdown the last two games.
Cedric Benson (Bengals), RB: In his first action with the team last week, Benson had 10 carries and gained 30 yards. Since Chris Perry has five fumbles in five games, Benson could see an increase in carries.
Greg Camarillo (Dolphins), WR: He is becoming more involved in the offense with an average of seven targets the last three games.
Tim Hightower (Cardinals), RB: Just in case you missed last week's column, here's another reminder. He should be owned in all leagues and is a good flex play, especially now with the byes. He has five touchdowns in five games and could see an increase in carries as the season moves along.
