Leah Stevens, of East Islip High School began playing the flute at the age of eight and is studying with Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson of the Metropolitan Opera. Leah has been a finalist in the L.I. Philharmonic and Westfield Symphony Competitions. She has taken 2nd prize at the LISMA International Music Competition and in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Competitions, as well as 1st Place in the L.I. 2012 Flute Club Competition and the Island Symphony Competition where she was the featured artist for their 40th Anniversary Concert.

Leah is a member of the New York Youth Symphony and principal flute in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. Other honors include Principal Flute of the NYSSMA All-State Symphonic Band and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Band, and was most recently named Principal Flute of NAfME’s All-National Symphony Orchestra.

She is straight-A student and a member of the National Honors Society, AP Scholar and President of Tri-M.

Leah is applying to several schools of music with plans to study flute performance in college. She has hopes to become a professional musician.
