Christmas with the Smithereens On Wednesday, December 19, Newsday Insiders attended a special, exclusive concert by the Smithereens! The band played their own music as well as some Christmas tunes. Newsday Insider Wine Event! On Sunday, November 11, we brought 50 Insiders on a bus trip to Palmer Vineyards in Aquebogue! Everyone got to sample wines, take a tour of the vineyards and the "haunted" house that is on the vineyards' grounds, enjoy a light lunch, and was given a special Newsday Insider wine journal to record their thoughts on the various wines they tasted! Newsday College Event! On Wednesday, October 24, more than sixty Newsday Insiders--parents as well as their college-bound sons and daughters--came to the College Event, during which they were given tons of tips on applying to colleges and finding the college that's the best fit for them. Our knowledgeable panel of experts--including Newsday's Joe Haberstroh and Dave Marcus, along with Michael O'Leary from George Washington University, Matthew Whelan from Stony Brook University, Eileen Connolly from JFK High School in Bellmore, and Elizabeth Wissner-Gross, an independent college counselor--doled out practical and important advice for all stages of the college application process. Newsday Sports Writers Event! On Wednesday, September 19, Bob Glauber, Tom Rock, and Arthur Staple, moderated by blogger Adam Abramson, engaged in a football-related talk with Newsday Insiders! Denise Flaim and the "Dog Days of Summer"! Denise Flaim and her two Rhodesian Ridgeback friends were the guests of honor at Newsday Insider's "Dog Days of Summer"! On Thursday, August 23, Newsday Insiders were treated to delicious munchies, goodie bags filled with fun stuff for their own dogs, and a great presentation by Denise and her two canine friends!
