Sex crime suspect suspended from school bus job
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls man accused of soliciting a minor for sex has been suspended without pay from his job as an aide with a school bus company.
School Bus Inc. manager Jim Schafer says 25-year-old Curtis Wegner will be fired if the allegations against him are true.
Wegner was arrested in a police sting operation when he went to a city park to allegedly have sex with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl he had met online. He is charged with felony solicitation of a minor.
Defense attorney Marcus Walton says Wegner never actually proposed that sex take place in the park.
Schafer says Wegner has worked for the school bus company for more than a year, helping students from kindergarten to high school age get on and off the bus and assisting with discipline. Schafer says the company does background checks on employees and Wegner passed.
