Auctioning off Lenny Dykstra
Friends and associates of Lenny Dykstra say the former Mets centerfielder was always thinking about new ways to make money – and his mind apparently knew no limits. In May 2011, in the midst of his significant legal and financial troubles, Dykstra orchestrated a plan to start auctioning himself off to his fans and emailed this PowerPoint pitch to Dan Herman, his publicist and business manager. “I am going give you an opportunity for you to make some real money,” Dykstra wrote to Herman. Herman, who is now working on a documentary of Dykstra’s life through his Pick Six Productions company, said he replied politely to Dykstra, but was too repelled by the concept to do anything with it.
