"Spaceman: A Baseball Odyssey" is a highly enjoyable documentary about Bill "Spaceman" Lee, the former pitcher for the Red Sox and Expos.
There's some awesome footage from his playing days - crazy news conferences, a jog through the streets of Montreal - and some beautifully filmed scenes from a visit he made to Cuba, as a retired player (the Cuba trip is the crux of the film). There are interviews with baseball people like Fred Lynn, Luis Tiant and Dick Williams about Lee.
And on the DVD, you can also watch Lee's commentary (as well as director and producer Brett Rapkin) over the documentary about himself. It's pretty funny. I think it's worth watching twice, first without the commentary and then with it.
I'll give my copy of the DVD to the first person who e-mails me - at email@example.com - with the correct answer to this question:
Lee's final game as a major leaguer featured three players who are currently major-league managers. Name the three men.
Here are the contest rules.
--UPDATE, 12:50 p.m.: We have a winner! Blog regular Richie G. - yes, Richie G. from Lynbrook - knew that Dusty Baker (now the Reds manager), Mike Scioscia (Angels) and Terry Francona (Red Sox) all played in Lee's last game - Dodgers at Expos, May 7, 1982.
This marks the first time that Richie has won free crap from the blog. It is a moment many experts never thought would occur. Congrats, Richie!
