Ken Davidoff's baseball insider

Yankees, Mets, trade rumors, free agents, off-the-wall predictions and other MLB musings.

Derek Jeter, Rafael Soriano, Ike Davis, Tony La Russa and Bill Gallo

At the Yankees game, I wrote my column about Derek Jeter, who had another strong night. As I wrote, if Jeter puts up a season closer to his 2010 than his 2009, that' should be just fine.

--Rafael Soriano wasn't available last night, due to a tender right elbow. We'll see whether this is anything serious, but it's clear already that Soriano is extremely high-maintenance.

--The Mets won, but of course it's never that easy for them, as Ike Davis left the game with a left calf injury. When was the last time the Mets enjoyed a wave of good luck? 2006? Man oh man.

--Mike Pelfrey and Ronny Paulino are working well together.

--Tony La Russa, officially diagnosed with shingles, will miss the rest of the Cardinals' road trip, through Sunday.

--Finally, rest in peace, Bill Gallo, the legendary New York Daily News cartoonist who passed away last night. I never met Bill, but I of course was familiar with his work. Who wasn't?
