Mets like Pudge but . . .
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Mets assistant general manager Tony Bernazard told a Puerto Rican newspaper the Mets have interest in Ivan Rodriguez, but having two catchers under contract has kept them from pursuing the free-agent catcher.
Bernazard, who is attending the World Baseball Classic, told El Nuevo Dia, "Some of us wished we could have him with us, but the truth is that we have two catchers under contract."
The Mets have Brian Schneider and Ramon Castro, but have expressed interest in upgrading over Castro.
Carlos Delgado, Rodriguez's teammate on Puerto Rico in the WBC, said Saturday night that Rodriguez would make a nice addition to the Mets.
According to the Puerto Rican newspaper, Bernazard declined to say if the Mets have tried to move Schneider or Castro.
"It's not so easy to make a move right now to make it possible to have him with us," he said.
