The Rangers wanted Manny Ramirez, they settled for Jeff Francoeur.

Francoeur hit  .237  in 123 games for the Mets, but  just .184 since July 1. The Rangers need him against lefthanded pitching, but Francoeur has averaged .162 against lefties over the past two months.

Even if Francouer plays sparingly, he can look forward to post season play with the Rangers, who have a nine-game lead over Oakland in the  AL West..

``We're not asking him to come in here to be an everyday starter," assistant general manager Thad Levine told the Dallas Morning News. ``We're asking him to play a complimentary role. He can run. He can hit for power. It gives [manager Ron Washington] some more ability to play matchups late.''
