Suffice it to say, tonight's pitching matchup isn't the sexiest of the series as both Jonathon Niese (0-1, 3.68 ERA) and Kyle Kendrick (0-0, 7.71) are looking for their first win.

Niese, who has never faced the Phillies before, is certainly hoping the Mets continue with the hard hitting they displayed in their series against the Dodgers. Niese has gotten one or no runs of support in three of his four starts. In his last outing, Niese allowed just one run in 5 1/3 innings against Atlanta, but took his third consecutive no-decision.

This will be his first career appearance against the Phillies.

Kendrick has a 2-1 career mark against the Mets. However, the right-hander has been struggling this season, and there is much speculation that with Joe Blanton expected to come off the 15-day disabled list early next month that he will soon be headed to the bullpen. Kendrick gave up five runs, eight hits and four walks in five innings of an 8-6 loss to Arizona on Sunday.

"The first month of the season hasn't been very good [for me]," Kendrick told Philadelphia reporters. "I've been pretty erratic. ... I've had some good spots and some bad ones. I'll just have to keep working on it."
