Another bad deal by the Mets. On July 30, 2004, Jose Bautista was acquired from Kansas City for Justin Huber. But on the same day, the Mets sent him and Ty Wigginton to the Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger. Today, Bautista is the major league leader in homers.

The Mets had another Jose Bautista, a pitcher, who was not related to the current player. The son of an Israeli mother and a Dominican father, he was signed by the Mets in 1981  at the age of 17. His role model was Sandy Koufax. He spent seven years in the Mets farm system, then played in the majors with several teams. His big league record was  32-42.
