CINCINNATI — Mike Pelfrey is progressing on the rehab trail and should start playing catch next week.

Pelfrey, who underwent Tommy John surgery on his right arm May 1, is expected to start playing catch Tuesday. He could do so at the Mets’ complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., rather than in his native Wichita, Kan., where he’s staying.

“I feel great,” Pelfrey wrote Tuesday in a text to Newsday. “Knock on wood, it has been pretty easy. I threw a plyo [plyometrics] ball this week and I felt really strong.”

Pelfrey, who’s eligible for arbitration in 2013, could be non-tendered by the Mets this offseason and possibly re-sign for a lesser salary.

Pelfrey said he’s focused on getting healthy, and after that, “we will see what happens this offseason.”
