Let’s call this evening's game must-win. At least until the next one comes along. The Mets cannot  defend any suggestion of a post-season run if they can’t beat Florida in two-of-three at home.

Florida has won 9 of 15 this season. but the Mets might have a slight edge in the pitching matchup, at least on paper. Lefthander Jonathon Niese (8-5. 3.33) needs to shut down Hanley Ramirez,  who is hitting .339 with 12 runs batted in this season. Niese is 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA vs. the Marlins . Florida is 26-12 against lefthanders.

Marlins starter Anibal Sanchez  is a quality pitcher (10-8, 3.16) but  has a 7.71 ERA at Citi Field.
