MORE LETTERS FROM LIRR RIDERS

As part of its coverage of the LIRR Commuter's Council project on bad behavior on the trains, Newsday is asking readers to send suggestions on how to correct the behavior problems. Here are some ideas:

Firstly, let me say that I am one of those chatty women in the morning. I get up at 5 a.m. and run children to their respective day care. I as well as the rest of the other commuters pay my monthly ticket to enjoy my ride into Penn Station. So, what I have to say to you grumpy riders: If you choose to sleep, bring ear plugs; if you choose to just be nasty and rude, get up and change your seat. THIS IS THE HAPPY TRAIN. The LIRR should create specific cars. For example: This car is for "grumpy, sleepy people," this car is for "happy, chatty fun people" and this car is for "cell phone users."

Instead of posters with some of the written comments that have appeared in Newsday, which the rude ones would never read anyway, here is a much better idea. Encourage those with camera phones to take a photo of the offender. Let the LIRR have a site where they could send the photos. Blow up the photos with the face blocked out (preventing a lawsuit) with a big red line through it so everyone would get the hint about what things should not be done on the train!

Commuters ... cannot be robots and just sit and face forward and say nothing. Friendships and even marriages have begun on the LIRR. If you do not like what is going on in the car you are in, you have at least eight more cars to choose from.
