Cesar Cabral's misfortune is LI native Matt Daley's gain.
The Yankees called up the Garden City native on Friday and designated Cabral for assignment following their 11-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Cabral played a big part in the bullpen's meltdown on Friday, giving up three earned runs on three hits and hitting three batters while failing to record an out.

Just 16 games into the season, the Yankees have already had five players man first base – one of whom had fewer than five games of experience at the position and three players who had previously only set foot on a first base bag when rounding the bases.
The chronology goes like this:
- Mark Teixeira strained his hamstring on April 4, just four games into his season, and went on the disabled...Read more »
Yangervis Solarte seemingly can do no wrong.
The Yankees' rookie helped lift CC Sabathia out of a jam in the second inning on Thursday against the Rays. With runners on first and second, Tampa Bay first baseman Sean Rodriguez grounded to third and in one fluid motion, Solarte fielded and stepped on the bag at third to start the 5-4-3 triple play. Solarte flipped to second to Roberts before...Read more »

The Yankees have called up righthanded reliever Shane Greene from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned catcher Austin Romine down to Triple-A, the team announced.
With backup catcher Francisco Cervelli likely not needed to play first base for awhile, the Yankees can keep him on their bench, removing the need to have Romine in New York.
Greene, 25, impressed the Yankees with his...Read more »
Mark Teixeira's stay on the disabled list has forced Joe Girardi into a peculiar position: forcing Francisco Cervelli into a peculiar position.
Cervelli has played all but six of his 202 major league games at catcher, spending four games (five innings) at third base and two games (three innings) at second base in odd, emergency situations. In 310 minor league games, Cervelli played 309 games...Read more »

Buck Showalter manages the Baltimore Orioles now, but way back when Derek Jeter first came up to the majors in 1995, Showalter was his Yankees manager.
Here's some of what Showalter told reporters Monday as his Orioles were the visiting team to Yankee Stadium for Jeter's final home opener.
Did he envision a 20-year career for Jeter?
“That’s what I thought. If you go back and check...Read more »
