The offense: Christian Guzman, who was “supplanted” at shortstop before the season by rookie Ian Desmond, is 3-for-7. Desmond is 2-for-8 with a home run…Ivan Rodriguez has started off well going 4-for-9…Josh Willingham is 4-for-10 and Ryan Zimmerman is 4-for-12…in 101 total at-bats to start the year, the Nats have 28 hits (.277 average), 13 extra-base hits and just two home runs. They’ve walked just 11 times, four of those by Adam Dunn.

The pitching: The starters have not fared well. Craig Stammen allowed four runs in five innings, Jason Marquis gave up six runs in four innings and John Lannan allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Miguel Batista (five runs in 1 2/3 innings) has been awful in the pen. Tyler Walker, Matt Capps, Brian Bruney and Tyler Clippard have combined for 9 1/3 scoreless innings (one unearned run) out of the pen, allowing six hits and eight (!) walks.
