David Wright has been the lone constant with the Mets the past nine seasons. He rose as a rookie on a club settled in mediocrity, helped make the Mets a contender again and then endured years of collapses as injuries and poor contracts took their toll on the team. Against the Padres on Aug. 7, the Mets were tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Endy Chavez led off the inning with a single, but Jose Reyes and Argenis Reyes both made outs. With Wright the last man standing before extra innings, he slammed Heath Bell's 1-and-0 offering over the leftfield wall for a two-run, walk-off shot, the first of his career.
