Ask Anthony: August 23
Lots of questions lately. A groundswell, really. Let's get right to 'em:Q: Do you think Pedro Martinez's next start will be at AA Binghamton, AAA New Orleans or Shea?
Thanks, Steve P., Oneonta, N.Y.
A: Well, it won't be at Shea. The Mets announced on Thursday that Martinez's next start will be Monday at Port St. Lucie (A).
Q: Hey Anthony. I think that A-Rod's warm reception could be more a reaction to his being a legitimate challenger to pumped up Bonds' records. In fact I believe as A-Rod gets closer to the HR record more cities will join the parade. What do you think?
Ben, Westlake, Calif.
A: Ben is referring to the warm reception A-Rod got from Angels' fans when the Yankees were there this week. I think it's a little far-fetched to suggest Angels fans were thinking of Bonds when they cheered A-Rod really, Ben, all of them? but I'm not in California, you are, so you probably know better what motivates Californians. I'm an East Coast guy. I understand why people get booed. Why people get cheered is kind of beyond me.
Q: Anthony: Any word that the Mets will be ridding themselves of the awful black uniforms? Not only are they ugly, but they are bush league. We should only see our Metropolitans in either pinstripes or gray, and always with the all-blue hat. I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. My hope is they go "retro" when they move into CitiField -- that is, blue and orange ONLY. The only thing that could be worse than continuing with the black would be to have whomever designed the new Islanders jerseys come in an re-do the Mets uniforms.
Thanks, Steve H.
A: Steve's e-mail was much, much longer than this, but I had to edit it down for space. Suffice it to say he feels very, very passionately about this black uniform issue. Steve, I don't think you're going to get your wish. Black jerseys are here to stay, my friend. But I would suggest you contact the Mets and if you are right and you are not alone, suggest that those other people contact the Mets, too. Power to the people!
I don't have anything to say about the Islanders jerseys other than whatever they wore when they won four Stanley Cups in a row - I'd probably want to wear those jerseys. Not the design. The actual jerseys from the Stanley Cup years.
Q: What are the chances the Mets grab David Wells for the stretch?
John T.
A: Why would you want that?
Q: Let's see how good you are. When is the only time a runner can get hit with a batted ball and not be called out? Tony C.
A: That's the measure of how good I am?
