Andy Pettitte throws off of flat ground
CLEVELAND — Andy Pettitte (fractured left fibula) threw a 60-pitch flat-ground session in the outfield yesterday, watched by Joe Girardi, pitching coach Larry Rothschild and trainer Steve Donohue. Pettitte will be evaluated Monday. "I just hope the doctor tells me I can’t hurt myself so I can get up on a mound," he said.
If he gets that go-ahead, he said his hope is to throw off a mound Tuesday. Girardi reiterated that he believes Pettitte will be healthy enough in time to make one or two starts before the end of the regular season.
One day after throwing 100 pitches in his first game back from the DL, CC Sabathia said his left elbow felt "good" .
