Eric Chavez sits with sore back, Curtis Granderson gets a day off
Eric Chavez, swinging the hottest bat on the team with 14 hits in his last 23 at-bats, did not start, though he pinch hit for Casey McGehee in the eighth and struck out looking. Chavez, 34, has been dealing with a sore back.
“You worry about the physical aspect of it,” Girardi said of getting Chavez his rest.
. . .Curtis Granderson, in a 1-for-21 skid, got the day off . . . The Red Sox start a three-game series at the Stadium Friday night. “They talked about [how they were slumping] the last time they were here and they took two out of three,” Girardi said.
