Johan Santana will not join the Mets in New York when camp breaks on March 30, Mets manager Terry Collins said on Friday.

"He's not where he needs to be in his long-toss program," said Collins, who believes Santana will be better off strengthening his surgically-repaired left shoulder in Port St. Lucie instead of throwing in cold weather in New York.
