Juan Lagares named National League Player of the Week
Big news: Mets rookie centerfielder Juan Lagares is the National League Player of the Week for July 15-21.
What, you thought it was the royal baby?
Lagares was scorching this past week, hitting .700 with a 1.900 on-base plus slugging percentage, including a three-run home run in a 5-0 victory over the Phillies on Sunday. He went 7-for-10 with five RBIs and three extra-base hits against the Philadelphia this weekend.
The 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic has been a spark plug since being called up, playing most of his time as a platoon outfielder against lefthanders, batting .327 with a .833 OPS over the past 28 days.
Lagares is the second Met this year to be named NL Player of the Week. The first was Matt Harvey for the period of April 8-14.
Seattle Mariners infielder Brad Miller earned American League honors.
