TORONTO — Barring the unforeseen, expect Mark Teixeira back at first base Monday night against the Red Sox.

“I’ll talk to him first to see [if he prefers] first or DH, but my thinking is first base,” Joe Girardi said before Sunday’s game.

Teixeira has missed the last 19 games with the calf strain he re-aggravated Sept. 8 in Baltimore. Previous to that Teixeira, hitting .255 with 23 homers and 81 RBIs, missed 10 straight games. Teixeira’s return obviously helps the middle of the order but also allows Girardi to put Nick Swisher back in the outfield.

“First time we’ll have our whole lineup for a long time, which is really good,” said Girardi, who much of the second half hasn’t had Alex Rodriguez and Teixeira in the lineup together. “It will make our lineup different. Tex is a huge bat against lefthanders. It’s affected us.”
