San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal has been suspended 50 games for allegedly testing positive for testosterone.

Grandal, 23, came to the Padres in December 2011 as part of the deal that sent pitcher Mat Latos to the Cincinnati Reds. Grandal made his big league debut last season, hitting .297 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 60 games.

The suspension will become effective at the start of next season.
